Our Lady Palm Tree (Rhapsis excelsa) is one the most versatile tropical plants in the world. They grow indoors and outdoors and are known to improve the quality of the air. They thrive in low lighted areas and are often placed in shaded corners where they receive reflective indirect sunlight.
The Lady Palm tree historically dates back to the 1600's when Japanese propagated the palm trees to be grown inside the Imperial residences. The Lady palm trees were imported by European monarchs and admired because of their qualities of long-life, easy maintenance and unique beauty. Lady Palm trees, Rhapsis excelsa, can grow twelve feet tall in clumps or clusters under low artificial light. Very few palm trees have the advantage of large indoor growing as does the Lady Palm tree, Rhapsis excelsa.
Water usage will depend on interior temperatures and lighting. In a bright, warm environment, your Rhapsis will need water once or twice per week. In low light, water once a week at the most. Allow the surface of the soil to dry down about one inch... then water until a small amount runs into the drip tray. Never allow your plant to get "bone" dry or to wilt. Feed bi-monthly with a balanced liquid plant food.
